Having just graduated high school ten years ago and from college six years ago, I thought that I was a "digital native." (Prensky) However, after taking several classes in the New Media program, I realized pretty quickly that I am a "new media immigrant!"
With each emerging technology, comes a promise of transforming education. Since the first film projector in the early 20th Century, educational professionals have failed to use the technology to its greatest educational potential. From lack of planning to ineffective staff development, we have not been able to reach the potential promises of each new technology.
New Media, including Web 2.0 tools, offer the greatest potential to education yet. I felt like it was important to get my feet wet with some of the new technologies that can be helpful in the classroom.
Listed below are classes I have taken that relate specifically to New Media:
ITC 5220: Computers in Educational Settings
ITC 5420: Hypermedia in Instruction
CI 5530: Web 2.0 and Social Networking
CI 5642: Intro to Web Page Design and Development
